ipsy March 2015

***SPOILER ALERT: THIS IS MY LAST ipsy BAG***

ipsy March 2015

The bag is really cute. It's a decent size and I'll probably hang on to it.

ipsy March 2015

pur~lisse beauty pur~delicate gentle soymilk cleanser & makeup remover
Appreciate your skin, don’t irritate it. Cleanse the day away in one simple step with this sulfate-free blend of Soy Milk, Whole Oat and White Tea. This gentle cleanser leaves your face silky soft, without a trace of impurity. The 4-in-1 sulfate free & non-drying formula gently washes away dirt and makeup (even mascara!), while soothing and toning skin.
Will I use it?: I'll get around to using it eventually, I'm way behind on using cleansers, but I've added it to my stash.

ipsy March 2015

VINTAGE by Jessica Liebeskind in Crystal Pink
Add a beautiful wash of color and subtle, sexy shimmer with the ILLUMINATING FACE HIGHLIGHTER. Created to be worn on top of fresh, dewy skin or as a delicate highlight over pretty blush – the reflective pearls add radiance on contact delivering a diamond-like finish to the skin.
Will I Use It?: I've used it a couple of times, and it's a very pretty color. It does pretty much exactly what it said it would.

ipsy March 2015

Boo-Boo Cover-Up: Medium Shade
Have a Boo-Boo? Skip the bandage and the shiny ointment. Look your best even while you heal with Boo-Boo Cover-Up for face and body. Our innovative formula offers great coverage for skin imperfections while containing ingredients known in nature to promote healing.
Will I Use It?: I've used this a couple of times. Even though it says Medium, it is definitely more on the fair side. It does a good job covering things up, but it's not a "must-have" in my makeup box.

ipsy March 2015

NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick in Hunk
Pamper your lips with a hydrating kiss of smooth Butter Lipstick in 22 luxurious shades. The delicate texture of satin fused with the high color saturation creates an even finish on lips that’s long-wearing and beautiful.
Will I Use It?: No, I will never, ever wear this. As of writing this post, I've already passed it on to a friend. I don't have anything in my profile that would indicate I would like a product like this, and I've specifically asked for no lip products multiple times. I was really disappointed to see this in my box. At least I made a friend happy!

ipsy March 2015

dr. brandt skincare pores no more anti-aging mattifying lotion
“An apple a day keeps the lines away.” This oil-free, lightweight lotion is formulated with apple stem cells to help delay the natural signs of aging by maintaining the longevity and activity of stem cells in the skin. Simultaneously, retinol stimulates new cell turnover and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Brandt’s multi-tasking formula provides the best of both worlds, delivering anti-aging and pore minimizing/mattifying benefits.
Will I Use It?: I haven't tried it yet, but it's also put away in my stash to try.

I think the NYX lipstick is what finally killed ipsy for me. They clearly are paying no attention to my profile, or my reviews. And there are other boxes I'd rather try, so this is the last month you'll see an ipsy box from me.

ipsy February 2015

I totally screwed up and took the vertical pictures again! What the heck. Maybe next month I'll remember!
I am also switching up the ipsy reviews just a bit! I am taking the descriptions directly from the ipsy website, and then just saying if I'll use it or not.

 photo B0C2ACF7-8E30-42B9-81B0-78FEC972AA3A_zpsylegdflx.jpg

This bag is cute, but I doubt I'll be hanging on to it after this month. It's a well-constructed bag, don't get me wrong, it's just not really me.

City Color Cosmetics Creamy Lip Stain in Flirtini
A hybrid between a lipstick and gloss, our Creamy Lip Stain is a new kind of lip product that applies smooth and creamy like a gloss and sets with a matte finish. This creamy lip stain gives your lips long lasting color while keeping lips moisturized. Available in 6 fun flirty shades.
Will I Use It? I have tried this, and it's not for me. The color is fine, but this came off streaky on my lips and wore funny, and the night I was wearing it I was just sitting at home organizing my bathroom. So I would hate to see what it might do to my lips if I was actually out and about. I might pass it off to someone else, because a lot of lip products and me don't seem to agree, but I haven't fully decided yet.

The light-weight formula adds volume and texture to hair, while protecting against heat for healthier styling. How to Use: Apply to damp hair before blow drying for added texture and lift, or use on dry hair as a revitalizing spray.
Will I Use It?: I absolutely will use this at some point, but I'm a little backstocked on hair stuff right now, so it might take some time.

Will I Use It?: I'm not really into face oils, but I'll try it out eventually. I'm trying not to use non-natural or basic products on my skin during my pregnancy, so this will be used afterward.

BLUSH Cheek Powder's chic compact is easy-to-use and perfect for beauty touch ups on-the-go.
Will I Use It?: I've used this several times since receiving it, and the color is really pretty! It's not shimmery at all, but it definitely does create a bit of a glow. This will definitely be in my regular rotation.

Emite Make Up Professional Eye Lash Curler
The EMITE MAKE UP Professional Eye Lash curler has a special curved design which angles to suit all eye shapes, without touching your makeup base. Its silicone rubber pad applies the appropriate amount of pressure to curl lashes naturally. Your eye lashes will remain in perfect shape all day!
Directions: Align rubber pad at base of upper lashes. Press handles together and hold for several seconds. Gently release and remove curler from lashes. Apply mascara. (Warning: Use the eyelash curler before applying mascara to avoid damage to lashes. Use with caution. Keep out of reach of children.)
Will I Use It?: I've used this a couple of times, and it's okay. It's definitely not going to be my go-to curler, but it's nice to have this as a back up!

This is another box that was a little hit and miss for me. I really, really like the blush, but that's pretty much it. To be honest, I'm giving ipsy a couple more months to see if it gets better, than I might have to cancel.

ipsy January 2015

Again... never taking vertical pics again!
Here's my January ipsy!

 photo B3CBCBA7-EB13-4F88-8CE4-B9D3F2BD44F6_zps5d7j6mkd.jpg

The bag is really cute, and much larger than the last couple of bags. I also LOVE the colors- it's blue and peachy and white. Not very "January" but I'm definitely hanging on to this one!
As far as the products go, I'm only MEH about all of them, other than the brush.

Bella Pierre Shimmer Powder in Excite
Recommended by make-up artists and dermatologists, BelláPierre shimmer powders are 100% Hypoallergenic and are suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive
How To Use: Sweep over eyelids.
How It Works:
Using 100% pure Mineral powder, these beautiful shimmer powders will provide long lasting, vibrant color without any additional filler that can often smear, crease, fade and even cause allergic reaction.

Will I Use It?: I've had this product in my makeup bag since receiving it about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and have not used it once. It's a lot whiter than it's reading in the picture, and very shimmery. I really need to try it, but I have not yet, and don't see it becoming a regular part of my rotation.

Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm
(MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm is as soothing to the lips as it is to the senses. Flavored with (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito, this lip balm is scientifically blended to restore and replenish.
How To Use: Apply to lips as needed.  A tiny bit offers immediate relief with little shine.  More generous application creates a gloss for use with or without lipstick.
How It Works: This hydrating lip gel easily integrates for daily maintenance, prevention and treatment of dry, irritated lips. Color and paraben free.
Will I Use It?: I have had such amazing luck with lip balms in subscription bags, and I'd have to say this is my favorite so far. My lips have been SO DRY in my pregnancy and this healed them practically overnight. (Okay, it was 2 days. But that IS overnight in beauty product world!) I am so impressed by this product.

Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in Treasure
Rich, lasting, creaseless eye shadows are infused with coconut water for a velvety, cream-like finish.
How To Use: Natural mineral makeup formula blends effortlessly and can be used sheer, layered or built-up for more drama.
How It Works:
An incredibly innovative formula that pushes natural makeup and mineral color to new bounds.

Will I Use It?: I've used this a couple of times since receiving it, and it's okay. The color payoff isn't as good as I wish it was, but the color is pretty, anyway. With a little patience to build it up, it becomes something really pretty.

Velvet 59 Velvet Rose Lipgloss in Noisette
Don't just stop and smell the roses - Wear their beauty on your lips. You will fall in love with the Velvet Rose Lipgloss.
How To Use: Swipe on lips.
How It Works: It's radiance and lustrous consistency makes your lips not just look but smell as fabulous as the classic rose.
Will I Use It?: I used it a little, and the color reads a little more brown on me than I personally like. I'll be passing this off to a friend.

Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush
Don’t miss a spot with this ridiculously soft shadow brush.
How To Use: Use it to highlight your brow bone and place the right amount of color for perfect and even application! Your lids will thank you later!
How It Works: This brush with its 100% synthetic bristles is the perfect multitasker.
Will I Use It?: I've used this several times since receiving it in my ipsy bag. Overall, it's a pretty good brush. I don't feel like it packs on the product in quite the way I like, but it would be a great brush for someone just getting into makeup, or someone like me that has a lot of brushes, and might like something that forces you to use a lighter touch.

I also cashed in some ipsy points and got this- Wrap Artist Nail Decals!

 photo 2A0956F3-2568-47A3-8D92-0EF906C8CF28_zpsiax0wbdr.jpg

I need to get my nails back in serious shape before I use them, but I'm kind of excited about them!

This box was kind of meh for me, the only product I feel like I will definitely repurchase one day is the lip balm, but I really, really like the bag, so that almost makes up for it.

ipsy vs Birchbox, October - December 2014

Since I have not done an ipsy or birchbox review since my last ipsy vs Birchbox, this is all new stuff! I'm still just going to do what I did last time- compare the boxes as a whole.

ipsy vs Birchbox October 2014
Here's my ipsy from October 2014

And here's my Birchbox from October 2014
 photo 1014birchbox_zps8a16ab5b.png

Even though I have tried the Sukiface Exfoliating Cleanser in March 2014 New Beauty Test Tube, Birchbox was definitely the winner for me this month. I have used every single sample in it. For the ipsy, the lipstick is sitting in a stash of stuff I need to give away, the handcream is tossed in with the others, and the mascara was just meh. I didn't choose any of my samples in this Birchbox- I just let them curate my box for me.
Winner: Birchbox

ipsy vs Birchbox November 2014
Here's my ipsy from November 2014

And here's my Birchbox from November 2014
 photo 1114birchbox_zps7a0b33e5.png

This month, I opted to get the Birchbox Buzzfeed Box (read more about it at the Ramblings of a Suburban Mom blog) when they asked me to choose a sample, and even though I picked it, I think I would've been happier just letting them choose the box. The mascara is an extremely wet formula that is just really doing me no favors, and I really, really disliked the candle scent. The only thing I kind of liked is the dry shampoo. The ipsy bag, on the other hand, was decent, and I've used the eye liner and eye base quite a bit. I will be passing off the lip sample and highlighter to a friend, but, overall, I just liked it more. I also really, really liked the bag this month!
Winner: ipsy

ipsy vs Birchbox December 2014
Here's my ipsy from December 2014
 photo 1214ipsy_zpsb9b156d6.png
And here's my Birchbox from December 2014
 photo 1214birchbox_zps1a3caf14.png

This month, I picked the eyeliner in my Birchbox, and I received a rose gold that I have used at least three times a week since receiving my box. And I used the hair spray once, but I wasn't super impressed with the staying power. For ipsy, I have used everything, and really enjoyed the products they chose for me- and I FINALLY got to try the Tarte deluxe lights, camera, lashes mascara that so many people rave about. And that eye polish is a really pretty rose gold that I've also gotten a lot of use out of, and will continue to do so. And the bag is super cute, though I kind of think it would've been more appropriate for a February box, since it has a pink heart.
Winner: ispy

So the score for this quarter is Birchbox - 1, ipsy - 2, and the overall total for both is Birchbox - 2, ipsy - 3, and both - 1.
I am going to keep both of them because I still love the Birchbox points system, and wish ipsy did something similar. But I love that ipsy gives more makeup products. And at $21.00 for both, it's still not something I feel like I'm not getting my money's worth out of each month.
This series will continue in the beginning days of April!

Ipsy vs Birchbox, July - September (are they both worth it?)

I wanted to do a quick post about what I have thought about my ipsy bag the last three months, compare it to my Birchboxes from the last three months, and then ask myself- is it worth the money to keep them both?

Birchbox and ipsy July 2014
 photo BirchboxJuly2014_2_zps5c17edf9.jpg  photo IpsyJuly2014_4_zpsf3571c5b.jpg

This was the first month I had ipsy, and at the time, I really like it, but looking back, I haven't really used any of the products, and none of them are now must haves for me. However, the Birchbox has two products I really loved (the nail polish the posiebalm), and I will be repurchasing posiebalm once I run out of the sample. So I guess this month, Birchbox won for me!

Birchbox and ipsy August 2014
 photo Birchbox082014_2_zpsea9ff2dd.jpg  photo ipsy082014_zpsad6258b5.jpg

This month, ipsy definitely won me over more. I LOVE the Perversion mascara, I've used that eyeshadow so much, and the Mongongo lip balm is now something I can not see myself ever not having. For the birchbox, I wasn't excited for it at the time, and looking back, it's probably one of my least favorites. I did really like the perfume, and have it on my favorites to possibly purchase one day. This month, ipsy won!

Birchbox and ipsy September 2014
 photo BirchboxSeptember2014_zpsee64d54e.jpg

Since I'm not that far removed from when I received the boxes, I can only say that both boxes were fine. I've used most of the products in both of the boxes, and don't really feel like any are must haves. (Though, I haven't tried the Liz Earle Cleanser yet.) Nothing so far strikes me as something I'll be repurchasing, but I liked the curation of both boxes. So this was a tie month.

So the score is Birchbox - 1, ipsy - 1, and both - 1. Which, to me, means it's absolutely worth it to hang on to both. Neither of them is the absolute winner, but both have been curated according to my profile and have some good products that I still use.
I'm going to make this a quarterly series, so I'm going to check back in at the beginning of January for October, November, and December.

ipsy September 2014

Ahhh I love everything in this bag!

ipsy photo ipsySeptember2014spoilers_zpsa3723f4b.png

- The Bag: I can't actually tell if I'll like this or not. I like the colors, but I'll reserve judgement until I hold it in my hands.
- Alterna Haircare CAVIAR CC Cream 10-in-1 Complete Correction: I have wanted to try this for awhile, so I'm really happy to see it in my bag. I just hope that it's a decent enough sample to at least get 3 or 4 uses.
- Crown Brush Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush: I'm always excited for new brushes, and I've heard good things about Crown Brushes.
- NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow: I wonder if I'll be receiving this purple shade, because according to the ipsy website, there are 10 different shades I might receive. I'm already a fan of NYX, so unless they send me a color I don't like, I know that I'll like it.
- Pacifica Natural Water-Proof Eye Pencil: I never really get excited about standard pencil liners- I'm more of a fan of the kind that twist up. So this is one product that I'm just meh about, and I kind of wish I had received the nail polish instead. There are two color choices (Gunmetal or Fringe), and I don't really care which one I get.
- CAILYN Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss: The two choices are Basic Instinct (which is the one shown above), and Love Affair, which is a deeper red color. I kind of am hoping I get Basic Instinct. According to the spoilers, this will be a full sized item. (And the lipgloss is worth $19.00, so this will basically pay for the whole bag.)

I really like the bag this time- it's kind of got an 80s vibe, and I like that it's just a little bigger than the last couple of months' bags have been.

Alterna Haircare CAVIAR CC Cream 10-in-1 Complete Correction
A miracle leave-in product that delivers 10 benefits in 1 easy step, leaving hair perfectly polished. Can be used alone or as a foundation for the layering of other styling products.
How To Use: Apply evenly to clean, towel-dried hair & style as desired. Can also be used as a finisher on dry hair for added perfection.
How It Works: Caviar CC Cream perfects hair in 10 different ways for complete: Moisture, Shine, Smoothness, Softness, Anti-Breakage, Heat Protection, Light Hold, UV Protection, Manageability and Strength
Will I Use It?: I've already tried it once, but results weren't that exciting. I'll keep using it and do a more complete review.

Crown Brush Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush
This dual-ended brush offers the best of both worlds.
How To Use: The shadow brush is perfect for applying eye shadow or contouring the eye, while the crease brush is designed to be used dry for defining the eye, or wet for precision concealing.
Will I Use It?: I've used this brush a handful of times since receiving it, and I understand why Crown Brushes are so hyped. This is one of the best quality brushes I own, and can definitely see investing in some others in the near future.

NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Bling
Whether your look is edgy or natural, NYX’s unique formulation is easy to blend and build on. 88 amazing shades inspired by the latest fashion runway trends.
How It Works: Hot Singles are intense! Powerfully loaded with pigments, this versatile formula lets you make a statement for any occasion
Will I Use It?: I added it to my makeup bag, but haven't used it yet. I will, though!

Pacifica Natural Water-Proof Eye Pencil in Fringe
These rich water-proof, buttery smooth eye pencils glide on smooth and deliver big color pay off with every stroke.
How It Works: Long-lasting natural formula, provides hours of wear and contains beneficial ingredients great for the sensitive eye area.
Will I Use It?: I used it on a day when I knew I'd need a waterproof mascara, and this definitely came through- it didn't budge at all. It's a nice, dark brown color, and I really like it!

CAILYN Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss in Basic Instinct
CAILYN Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss delivers the stunning color impact of a lip stain and high shine of a lip gloss.
How It Works: This silky smooth gloss glides on your lips like butter, leaving you with a lacquer like finish.
Will I Use It?: I really like the color, but I haven't used it yet.

I really enjoyed everything in this bag, but I have decided to switch up my profile a bit- I've unmarked lip products completely. Hopefully I won't receive any for awhile, because I'm not even a big lip product junkie, so none of them are really getting used.
This isn't reflected at all of the color or quality of the lip products received, I just won't use them and would rather see what else I get if that option isn't available for now.

ipsy August 2014

I was able to unlock the spoilers for my bag on the 6th, and I got SO excited! And it's filled with completely different brands than my first ipsy!

 photo ipsyAugust2014_zpsfdca3d61.png

- The Bag: I really like this! I can't tell what kind of material it's made out of, but this might be one I hang on to!

- Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner: I've heard quite a bit about this product, and I'm excited to try it!
- Urban Decay Perversion Mascara: I knew from seeing the spoilers that every subscriber would receive either the mascara or a 24/7 liner in Plushie. I was secretly hoping for the mascara, and I'm pretty psyched that I got it!
- J. Cat Beauty Flying Solo Eye Shadow: It says I'll be receiving the shade Half Naked, which sounds like it will be a neutral shade. It also looks like it has a little mirror! Very Cute!
- Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner: I can always use another lip balm, but I'm a little picky. Hopefully this will be one that I like!
- Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk: I've started showering at night, and dry shampoo has become a must for my oily hair!

Onto the unboxing!

 photo ipsy082014_zpsad6258b5.jpg

Okay, I am not a fan of the bag. It both looks like and feels like a pool floaty. If this was fabric, I would have been all over it. But I'll definitely be putting this in my donation stuff once the month is over.

 photo ipsy082014_2_zps0cca015e.jpg

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
This award-winning dry shampoo is the ultimate secret weapon to clean hair without water and to add amazing volume.
How To Use: Directions: Shake can well before use and in between sprays; Spray roots evenly holding can 10 inches from head. Do not spray on hair’s length–it’s meant for the scalp and roots; Leave product in for 2 minutes to allow it to soak up oil; Brush hair thoroughly to remove excess product and distribute evenly; and Style as desired!
How It Works: Klorane Dry shampoo with oat milk gently revives hair, ridding it of excess dirt, oil, build-up and odor while leaving hair soft, clean and full of volume.
Will I Use It?: I tried it out and it's okay. It removed the oils from my hair, but my roots definitely showed a white-cast. I may have used too much, so I'll keep trying it out and do a full review later.

J. Cat Beauty Flying Solo Eye Shadow in Half Naked
Allow your eyes to soar with vivid pigments from an immense selection of Flying Solo eye shadows. The collection glides for every girl—from classic neutrals to the trendsetting shades in mattes and shimmers. The high-quality formula and texture can be worn wet or dry.
How To Use: Sweep over eyelid, wet or dry.
How It Works: Allow your eyes to soar with vivid pigments from an immense selection of Flying Solo eye shadows. The collection glides for every girl—from classic neutrals to the trendsetting shades in mattes and shimmers. The high-quality formula and texture can be worn wet or dry. Each shadow opens up to reveal a mini mirror and applicator, making this shadow perfect whether at home or on the go!
Will I Use It?: This is a really pretty neutral shade for my skin tone, and the texture of the shadow is wonderful. I really like that you open up the top and there's a teeny mirror and a sponge tip applicator, perfect for just tossing in your bag if you're in a bit of a hurry in the morning!

 photo ipsy082014_7_zps44fc8e7f.jpg

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner
Dr. Brandt's quick fix for flawless, photo-ready skin fits seamlessly into any regimen--skincare or makeup--because of its incredible ability to hide the appearance of pores and mattify shine. Available in a tinted formula too.
How To Use: Use in the morning after cleansing with Pores No More Cleanser. Can be used on top of your moisturizer and foundation. Re-apply throughout the day as necessary. For best results, use with Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner and Pores No More Pore Thing.
How It Works: Hides and refines pores. Absorbs excess oil. Smooths and evens skin's appearance.
Will I Use It?: I did try this, and it's okay. It has a mousse-like texture like the COOLA Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face. I didn't notice a lot of extra-staying power for my makeup or that it helped mattify, but I'll keep trying it and see what happens.

 photo ipsy082014_8_zps824c521d.jpg

Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner
Jersey Shore Sun® Mongongo Nutrient Dense Lip Conditioners are 100% natural and USDA certified organic. Fresh organic flavors. No petrochemicals. Nothing artificial. No petroleum.
How To Use: Slather on this balm for soft lips all year long.
How It Works: Mongongo oil has hydrating, regenerating and restructuring properties and offers a unique protection from UV and environmental pollutants in skin applications. Mongongo oil is rich in calcium, magnesium, zinc, cooper and anti-oxidants.
Will I Use It?: I've used this a few times before bed, and I LOVE how soft it leaves my lips feeling. And it doesn't leave any kind of waxy, weird film behind. I think I may have a new favorite lip balm!

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara
An eye duo for stand-out lashes: a creamy, lash primer that conditions and preps lashes, and an ultrablack mascara that lengthens and volumizes.

How To Use: Perversion has a creamy, full-bodied texture that’s not too dry, not too wet. This allows just the right amount of “pull” so it glides through lashes. The result: incredible control for insane lashes. Go ahead and pile on coat after coat. Want to apply more before you go out at night? No problem. Even if it’s been all day since you applied, more Perversion always means more beautiful lashes. Our formula NEVER gets brittle or clumpy.
How It Works: Enhance lashes with Urban Decay’s combo of Perversion Mascara and Subversion Primer. The limited-edition Subversion Lash Primer coats lashes with protective panthenol and conditioning vitamin E, prepping them for high-volume mascara application. The Perversion Mascara provides creamy, full-bodied texture that’s not too dry and not too wet, allowing for just the right amount of pull as it glides through each lash, achieving clump-free application. It is formulated with a nourishing blend that stimulates lash growth, and the triple-black pigments leave lashes looking ultrablack.
Will I Use It?: Are you nuts? Of COURSE I've used it, and I loved it! It really separated my lashes and coated them with one of the blackest mascaras I've ever encountered. This may end up being a must have! (And I did try recoating later in the day, and it completely worked. I'm so in love!)

Second bag, second win! I love everything in this bag, except the actual bag, but even that I consider a bonus. I've discovered two new favorite products this month, and I can't wait to see what next month brings!
