Amazon.com Kindle Monthly Book Deals Posts Discontinued

Hey guys,

So, in place of what usually is my first post of the month, I'm just going to be honest- this is my least favorite blog to write. I like "segments" on blogs, but this one is just wearing me out! These posts are also my least viewed every month. So I have decided to just stop doing them, and instead post other blogs (probably book reviews, as these seem to be a Tuesday thing now) in it's place.
These posts also take a really long time, but with the views not showing payoff, I've decided that if it's not fun to write, and a lot of people aren't reading them, what is the point? But I didn't just want to stop doing them and not tell you guys why... so here's my reason.

Thanks for understanding!

Amazon.com Kindle Monthly Book Deals, $3.99 or less for February 2014

Some of you may or may not have a Kindle. I apologize if you don't, but these posts are for anyone with either access to a Kindle or a way to get the app downloaded.

Every month, Amazon sells books for $3.99 or less that typically cost more. I have been able to purchase some really great books from these sales, and always check on the first of the month. I also check their daily deals as often as I can remember.

Uglies Scott Westerfeld
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld  ($1.99 - 80% off print list price)

Everybody gets to be supermodel gorgeous. What could be wrong with that?

Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license - for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.

But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all.

The choice Tally makes changes her world forever...

Why I'm Recommending It

I've heard so many good things about this series of books, and people recommend them to me all the time. So I think I'm going to go ahead and get it now- what do I have to lose besides $1.99?

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Ann Brashares

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares ($2.99 - 70% off print list price)
Carmen got the jeans at a thrift shop. They didn't look all that great: they were worn, dirty, and speckled with bleach. On the night before she and her friends part for the summer, Carmen decides to toss them. But Tibby says they're great. She'd love to have them. Lena and Bridget also think they're fabulous. Lena decides that they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly. Even Carmen (who never thinks she looks good in anything) thinks she looks good in the pants. Over a few bags of cheese puffs, they decide to form a sisterhood and take the vow of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants . . . the next morning, they say good-bye. And then the journey of the pants and the most memorable summer of their lives begins.

Why I'm Recommending It

Again, a series of books I am long overdue to read. I have both of the movies and absolutely adore them. Time to pick this up as well!

There are 111 other books available, and all of them will be available at the above reduced prices until the end of February.

Amazon.com Kindle Monthly Book Deals, $3.99 or less for January 2014

 photo thelongwayhome_karenmcquestion_zps12e9344a.jpg

The Long Way Home by Karen McQuestion ($4.99 - 67% off print list price)
Four women bound by chance take the trip of a lifetime in Karen McQuestion's fifth novel The Long Way Home. For Wisconsinites Marnie, Laverne and Rita, life isn't working out so well. Each is biding time, waiting for something better, something to transport them out of what their lives have recently become. And then there's Jazzy: bubbly, positive, and happy even though she hears voices of the departed. Brought together by a chance meeting, the women decide to join Marnie on a road trip from Wisconsin to Las Vegas where she intends to reunite with Troy, the boy she raised as her own ? and who she's been separated from since her boyfriend's death. Little do they know that as the road trip unfolds, so will their lives ? in directions they never anticipated. Humorous, heartwarming, and bittersweet, the journey has something special in store for each woman.

Why I'm Recommending It: It sounds like a good story, and gets reasonable ratings on Goodreads.

I'm not sure why this book is listed at $4.99 when all the other books are $3.99 and under, and it was on that page. Either way, it sounds interesting and I'm putting it on my "to read" list.

 photo hannahsdream_dianehammond_zps52380fd9.jpg

Hannah's Dream by Diane Hammond ($1.99 - 86% off print list price)An elephant never forgets . . . but can she dream?

For forty-one years, Samson Brown has been caring for Hannah, the lone elephant at the down-at-the-heels Max L. Biedelman Zoo. Having vowed not to retire until an equally loving and devoted caretaker is found to replace him, Sam rejoices when smart, compassionate Neva Wilson is hired as the new elephant keeper. But Neva quickly discovers what Sam already knows: that despite their loving care, Hannah is isolated from other elephants and her feet are nearly ruined from standing on hard concrete all day. Using her contacts in the zookeeping world, Neva and Sam hatch a plan to send Hannah to an elephant sanctuary—just as the zoo's angry, unhappy director launches an aggressive revitalization campaign that spotlights Hannah as the star attraction, inextricably tying Hannah's future to the fate of the Max L. Biedelman Zoo.

A charming, poignant, and captivating novel certain to enthrall readers of Water for Elephants, Diane Hammond's Hannah's Dream is a beautifully told tale rich in heart, humor, and intelligence.

Why I'm Recommending It: It gets a solid 4 star rating on Goodreads, and the more reviews I'm reading through, the more I'm getting excited about reading this book. It sounds character rich, and effortless. It sounds like the kind of book I'd feel good about after I finish it, which is always nice, because I tend towards books that aren't "feel good". But every once in awhile, it's nice to close a book with a smile on my face, and this book would probably do that for me.

There was only two books this time because there were a lot of "resolution" books this month, and I'm not really about that.
There are 112 other books available, and all of them will be available at the above reduced prices until the end of January.

Amazon.com Kindle Monthly Book Deals, $3.99 or less for December 2013

 photo neilgaiman_stardust_zpsac0a8ebd.jpg

Stardust by Neil Gaiman ($1.99 - 75% off print list price)
Young Tristran Thorn will do anything to win the cold heart of beautiful Victoria—even fetch her the star they watch fall from the night sky. But to do so, he must enter the unexplored lands on the other side of the ancient wall that gives their tiny village its name. Beyond that old stone wall, Tristran learns, lies Faerie—where nothing, not even a fallen star, is what he imagined.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Neil Gaiman comes a remarkable quest into the dark and miraculous—in pursuit of love and the utterly impossible.

Why I'm Recommending It: I've been wanting to read Gaiman for awhile, but have yet to do so. I'm not sure if this would be a great introduction to his work, but I've heard good things about both the book and the movie (it gets slightly above a four star review on Goodreads), so I might as well give it a shot!

 photo robertarich_themidwifeofvenice_zps77199c92.jpg

The Midwife of Venice by Roberta Rich ($1.99 - 88% off print list price)
Hannah Levi is renowned throughout Venice for her gift at coaxing reluctant babies from their mothers—a gift aided by the secret “birthing spoons” she designed. But when a count implores her to attend to his wife, who has been laboring for days to give birth to their firstborn son, Hannah is torn. A Papal edict forbids Jews from rendering medical treatment to Christians, but the payment he offers is enough to ransom her beloved husband, Isaac, who has been captured at sea. Can Hannah refuse her duty to a suffering woman? Hannah’s choice entangles her in a treacherous family rivalry that endangers the baby and threatens her voyage to Malta, where Isaac, believing her dead in the plague, is preparing to buy his passage to a new life. Not since The Red Tent or People of the Book has a novel transported readers so intimately into the complex lives of women centuries ago or so richly into a story of intrigue that transcends the boundaries of history.

Why I'm Recommending It: I've had this on my "to read" shelf on Goodreads since October of last year! The whole story just sounds so interesting and complex! I've heard the book is slow and that there's no real "urgency", but sometimes you just want to go with and be involved in a story, not have things happen. So I might pick this up for when I'm in the mood for just that.

That's it this time! I would definitely keep my eye on the Daily Deals this month, since it is so close to Christmas! I was lucky enough to pick up The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe recently for $1.99 for Kindle, which was great because I don't own a physical copy but love that story. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more deals like that as the month goes on.
There are 117 other books available, and all of them will be available at the above reduced prices until the end of November

 photo gamechange_zpscffc9810.jpg

Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin ($2.99 - 82% off print list price)
“This shit would be really interesting if we weren’t in the middle of it.”—Barack Obama, September 2008

In 2008, the presidential election became blockbuster entertainment. Everyone was watching as the race for the White House unfolded like something from the realm of fiction. The meteoric rise and historic triumph of Barack Obama. The shocking fall of the House of Clinton—and the improbable resurrection of Hillary as Obama’s partner and America’s face to the world. The mercurial performance of John McCain and the mesmerizing emergence of Sarah Palin. But despite the wall-to-wall media coverage of this spellbinding drama, remarkably little of the real story behind the headlines has yet been told.

In Game Change, John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, two of the country’s leading political reporters, use their unrivaled access to pull back the curtain on the Obama, Clinton, McCain, and Palin campaigns. How did Obama convince himself that, despite the thinness of his résumé, he could somehow beat the odds to become the nation’s first African American president? How did the tumultuous relationship between the Clintons shape—and warp—Hillary’s supposedly unstoppable bid? What was behind her husband’s furious outbursts and devastating political miscalculations? Why did McCain make the novice governor of Alaska his running mate? And was Palin merely painfully out of her depth—or troubled in more serious ways?

Game Change answers those questions and more, laying bare the secret history of the 2008 campaign. Heilemann and Halperin take us inside the Obama machine, where staffers referred to the candidate as “Black Jesus.” They unearth the quiet conspiracy in the U.S. Senate to prod Obama into the race, driven in part by the fears of senior Democrats that Bill Clinton’s personal life might cripple Hillary’s presidential prospects. They expose the twisted tale of John Edwards’s affair with Rielle Hunter, the truth behind the downfall of Rudy Giuliani, and the doubts of those responsible for vetting Palin about her readiness for the Republican ticket—along with the McCain campaign staff’s worries about her fitness for office. And they reveal how, in an emotional late-night phone call, Obama succeeded in wooing Clinton, despite her staunch resistance, to become his secretary of state.

Based on hundreds of interviews with the people who lived the story,Game Change is a reportorial tour de force that reads like a fast-paced novel. Character driven and dialogue rich, replete with extravagantly detailed scenes, this is the occasionally shocking, often hilarious, ultimately definitive account of the campaign of a lifetime.

Why I'm recommending it: I read this book, and saw the HBO movie based on it, and I really enjoyed it. As someone that was completely fascinated with the 2008 election, it really gave a unique perspective! It is more liberally biased, but I thought presented a pretty clear picture of what was going on behind the scenes. I know Sarah Palin has spoken out publicly about the book and her portrayal in it, but I wouldn't be too happy if I had read the things written about myself, either.

I think if you were equally as enthralled with the 2008 election, you would enjoy this.

 photo mysticriver_dennislehane_zps352facd0.jpg

Mystic River by Dennis Lehane ($2.99 - 79% off print list price)
When they were children, Sean Devine, Jimmy Marcus, and Dave Boyle were friends. But then a strange car pulled up to their street. One boy got into the car, two did not, and something terrible happened --- something that ended their friendship and changed all three boys forever.

Now, years later, murder has tied their lives together again ...

Why I'm recommending it: I've never seen this movie or read the book myself, but I've heard both are great. Now reading through his works, it seems like a lot of them get great reviews, and I might need to check out some (including this one!) myself.

 photo burned_ellenhopkins_zpsb07ec865.jpg
Burned by Ellen Hopkins ($1.99 - 83% off print list price)
I do know things really began to spin out of control after my first sex dream.
It all started with a dream. Nothing exceptional, just a typical fantasy about a boy, the kind of dream that most teen girls experience. But Pattyn Von Stratten is not like most teen girls. Raised in a religious -- yet abusive -- family, a simple dream may not be exactly a sin, but it could be the first step toward hell and eternal damnation.
This dream is a first step for Pattyn. But is it to hell or to a better life? For the first time Pattyn starts asking questions. Questions seemingly without answers -- about God, a woman's role, sex, love -- mostly love. What is it? Where is it? Will she ever experience it? Is she deserving of it?
It's with a real boy that Pattyn gets into real trouble. After Pattyn's father catches her in a compromising position, events spiral out of control until Pattyn ends up suspended from school and sent to live with an aunt she doesn't know.
Pattyn is supposed to find salvation and redemption during her exile to the wilds of rural Nevada. Yet what she finds instead is love and acceptance. And for the first time she feels worthy of both -- until she realizes her old demons will not let her go. Pattyn begins down a path that will lead her to a hell -- a hell that may not be the one she learned about in sacrament meetings, but it is hell all the same.
In this riveting and masterful novel told in verse, Ellen Hopkins takes readers on an emotional roller-coaster ride. From the highs of true love to the lows of abuse, Pattyn's story will have readers engrossed until the very last word.
Why I'm recommending it: I really, really liked Crank. I think I read it right after high school. And this book seems just as interesting as the premise for Crank sounded at the time I decided to read it.

 photo fireproof_ericwilson_zps1711e690.jpg
Fireproof by Eric Wilson ($1.99 - 80% off print list price)
INSIDE BURNING BUILDINGS, Captain Caleb Holt lives by the firefighter's adage: NEVER LEAVE YOUR PARTNER. Yet at home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules.

Growing up, his wife Catherine always dreamed of marrying a loving, brave firefighter . . . just like her father. Now, after seven years of marriage, she wonders when she stopped being "good enough." Countless arguments and anger have them wanting to move on to something with more sparks.

As they prepare for divorce, Caleb's father challenges him to commit to a 40-day experiment: "The Love Dare." Wondering if it's even worth the effort, Caleb reluctantly agrees, not realizing how it will change his world forever.

Surprised by what he discovers about the meaning of love, Caleb begins to see his wife and marriage as worth fighting for. But is it too late? His job is to rescue others. Now Captain Holt must face his toughest job ever . . . rescuing his wife's heart.

Why I'm recommending it: This book has a great rating on Good Reads, and I've heard from people that have read it that it is a great book.

 photo thetragedypaper_elizabethlaban_zps23616034.jpg

The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth LaBan ($2.99 - 83% off print list price)
Tim Macbeth, a seventeen-year-old albino and a recent transfer to the prestigious Irving School, where the motto is “Enter here to be and find a friend.” A friend is the last thing Tim expects or wants—he just hopes to get through his senior year unnoticed. Yet, despite his efforts to blend into the background, he finds himself falling for the quintessential “It” girl, Vanessa Sheller, girlfriend of Irving’s most popular boy. To Tim's surprise, Vanessa is into him, too, but she can kiss her social status goodbye if anyone ever finds out. Tim and Vanessa begin a clandestine romance, but looming over them is the Tragedy Paper, Irving’s version of a senior year thesis, assigned by the school’s least forgiving teacher.

Jumping between viewpoints of the love-struck Tim and Duncan, a current senior about to uncover the truth of Tim and Vanessa, The Tragedy Paper is a compelling tale of forbidden love and the lengths people will go to keep their love.

Why I'm recommending it: I heard about this book shortly after I finished The Fault in Our Stars, but I forgot to add it to my Good Reads list. Now that I remember it was recommended to me, based on the fact that I loved that book so much, I will definitely be checking this out again.

There are 112 other books available, and all of them will be available at the above reduced prices until the end of November

Amazon.com Kindle Monthly Book Deals, $3.99 or less for October 2013

Some of you may or may not have a Kindle. I apologize if you don't, but these posts are for anyone with either access to a Kindle or a way to get the app downloaded.

Every month, Amazon sells books for $3.99 or less that typically cost more. I have been able to purchase some really great books from these sales, and always check on the first of the month. I also check their daily deals as often as I can remember.

I got an e-mail last month suggesting I post covers, because some people do really enjoy them, so I am starting to do that this month!

This month there are six books that I am recommending. I have not read them all, but based on the descriptions, I want to!

 photo findingemmasteenaholmes_zpsc893db28.jpg
Finding Emma by Steena Holmes ($1.99 - 87% off print list price)
I read this book last month, and gave it a solid four star review on Good Reads. I absolutely loved it! Coincidentally, I have a full review of this book coming out on the blog tomorrow! (I will link it here once the blog is up, for you future readers!)

 photo emmassecretsteenaholmes_zpsbf2824d4.jpg
Emma's Secret by Steena Holmes ($1.99 - 87% off print list price)
I also read this book last month, pretty much immediately after I finished Finding Emma, and also gave it a solid four star review on Good Reads. This is just a great, heartbreakingly beautiful series, and I wish there were more.
I also have a full review on this book coming out on October 9th! (I will link it here once the blog is up, for you future readers!)

 photo boymeetsboydavidlevithan_zps4e9f446e.jpg
Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan ($2.99 - 67% off print list price)
I've had this book on my Good Reads "to read" shelf since the beginning of the year, so it's nice to see if on the monthly deals list! This comes highly recommended to me all the time, and has a high rating on both Amazon and Good Reads. I've heard some people say they didn't like this book because the world in it is unrealistic, but I think everyone needs that every once in awhile, to believe the world can become a beautiful and more accepting place.

 photo thetranslatorninaschuyler_zps16ae9f2e.jpg
The Translator by Nina Schuyler ($1.99 - 92% off print list price)
This seems like an interesting premise- a woman that is known for translating languages hits her head and then only remembers Japanese. I'm intrigued and want to know more!

 photo thefinalpiecemaggimyers_zpsa767265e.jpg
The Final Piece by Maggi Myers ($1.99 - 83% off print list price)
This book gets great reviews on both Good Reads and Amazon, and sounds like the kind of book I've been drawn to lately- great stories with strong characters overcoming something.

 photo catversushuman_zps3c9ee6ed.jpg
Cat versus Human by Yasmine Surovec ($1.99 - 80% off print list price)
I have seen these little comics all over the place, and now I know where they came from! As a person that has had cats almost my whole life, I can relate to the ones I have seen, so it will be fun checking all of these out!

There are 199 other books available, and all of them will be available at reduced prices until the end of October.

Amazon.com Kindle Monthly Book Deals, $3.99 or less for September 2013

Some of you may or may not have a Kindle. I apologize if you don't, but these posts are for anyone with either access to a Kindle or a way to get the app downloaded.

Every month, Amazon sells books for $3.99 or less that typically cost more. I have been able to purchases some really great books from these sales, and always check on the first of the month. I also check their daily deals as often as I can remember.

This month there are six books that I am recommending. I have not read them all (I actually think I've only read one of them), but some I really want to, based on the descriptions and reviews.

Enclave by Ann Aguirre ($2.99 - 70% off print list price)
I only gave this story a 3 star review on Good Reads, but I still liked it enough and want to read the rest of the series. The second book is out, and the third book is coming out in October, which is probably why this is on sale now. The story is a dystopian young-adult novel (which, as I have pointed out before, I love!) about a colony of people that live underground because of "freaks"- which are basically zombies. It mainly revolves around a girl and a guy (don't they always), and them getting kicked out of the colony and having to exist "topside".

Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern ($1.99 - 88% off print list price)
I have not read this book, but I used to read his twitter all the time and thought it was hilarious. And on both Amazon and Good Reads the book has four stars, and the good reviews I've read are extremely helpful (all the bad reviews are about the dad being a jerk- clearly they don't understand the concept of the book).

The Laws of Gravity by Liz Rosenberg ($1.99 - 87% off print list price)
I have not read this book, either, but from all of the reviews I've read on this book, it seems quite similar in style to Jodi Picoult, who I am a huge fan of. The book itself is about a family in which one of the cousins in sick, and the other promised her his babies cord blood, but then takes back the promise, so the other cousin takes him to court. It just seems like such an interesting premise!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith ($3.99 - 69% off print list price)
I haven't read this book by Grahame-Smith, but I really enjoyed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, so I might enjoy this. Although, I have never read Pride and Prejudice. But if you have, maybe you'll enjoy this take!

Dairy Queen by Katherine Gilbert Murdock ($1.99 - 78% off print list price)
I've heard such great things about this series of books! I've heard they're great for both young boys and girls, and are a lot of fun. All of the books in the series (there are 3) have four stars on both Amazon and Good Reads. I've heard the main character in the book is very well written and extremely relatable, which is always nice.

Gods, Demigods, and Demons: An Encyclopedia of Greek Mythology by Bernard Evslin ($1.99 - 91% off print list price)
Who doesn't love Greek Mythology? This seems like it would be a good reference guide!

There are 202 other books available, and all of them will be available at reduced prices until the end of September.

This month there are 2 books that I am recommending! I actually won't be purchasing or recommending anything else this month, because nothing much caught my eye.

The Sweetheart's Knitting Club by Lori Wilde ($1.99 - 75% off list price)
I read this book over a year ago, but I remember it a pretty good story. It's definitely "comfort reading"- there are no surprises, but it's still a decent read.

Bunheads by Sophie Flack ($2.99 - 67% off list price)
I've read reviews by dancers that say this book is very realistic. I thought it was an interesting read.

There are 207 other books available, and all of these will be available until the end of August. Be sure to get them while the price is low!

Amazon.com Kindle Monthly Book Deals, $3.99 or less for July 2013

Some of you may or may not have a Kindle. I apologize if you don't, but these posts are for anyone with either access to a Kindle or a way to get the app downloaded.

Every month, Amazon sells books for $3.99 or less that typically cost more. I have been able to purchases some really great books from these sales, and always check on the first of the month. I also check their daily deals as often as I can remember.

Some months are not as good as others, so this may not become a monthly series. However, this month, there are 4 books that I am going to be purchasing, and that I highly recommend checking out!

Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life by Steve Martin ($2.99 - 80% off print list price)
Okay, this is one of two books that I have not actually read for this month's recommendations. So why am I recommending it? Because it gets great reviews, I am a Steve Martin fan, and almost everyone I know that is both a reader and a fan of his have recommended this book to me countless times, and at 80% off the list price? Sold!

Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews ($1.99 - 75% off print list price)
This is the first book in a series. This is one of the best trashy novels with a plot you will ever read. It is not the most well written piece of literature you will ever read, but it does have a pretty shocking, sickening twist, but you still feel sorry for the main characters in a way. Most of you probably already know what it is, but I still won't spoil. it. Suffice to say, when you lock kids with hormones in an attic, you dig your own grave.

The Secret Language of Girls by Frances O'Roark Dowell ($1.99 - 72% off print list price)
This the two of two books on the list that I have not actually read. But it's on my Want to Read list on Good Reads, and I have heard good things. It is about two best friends that have been friends since they were in nursery school, but things change in sixth grade when another girls move into town. It just feels like those kinds of stories that completely change your view, and will probably be a good book to own for later in life when I have a kid of my own, or when my nieces or nephews come to visit.

The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame ($0.99 - 72% off print list price)
This is an amazing children's book. I read this countless times as a child, and it is a classic. I remember fondly my adventures alongside Mole, Rat, Badger and, of course, Mr. Toad. This is another "investment" into my children's digital library, a book I will love to read along side them as they learn to read and love the stories as much as I have.

There are 96 other books available, and all of these will be available until the end of July. Be sure to get them while the price is low!
